Update 1/06/2017

Welcome Back!

We look forward to the beginning of a new semester. Our teachers are ready and excited to see all of the students smiling faces again.

We will begin our new reading ability groups in grades K-5 when students return from Winter Break on Monday. These groups are fluid and not a specific grade level. Students may move from group to group as needed. These new groups will enable teachers to meet the needs of more students.

Have a restful weekend and see you January 9th.

Tardies/Winter Carnival

Good Morning All,

Don't forget, tomorrow is the Winter Carnival from 10-3. We still need volunteers for the Craft room. Please see the sign up genius to help out.

Today we had 82 tardies, please set the alarm 10-15 minutes earlier on cold, winter mornings. Mrs. Smith has to enter all the tardies and that takes a great deal of time from daily duties, as well as, students are already missing instruction.

The students will stay inside if the temperature is below 20 (with windchill). If the temperature does reach 20 we will send the students outside so please have students dressed appropriately for the weather.
Stay warm!

Update on Lead Testing

Excel Academy was built in 2004.  Therefore, the pipes, faucets and drinking fountains installed during the construction of our building are certified lead-free and adhere to the 1991 Lead and Copper Rule.  Therefore, lead testing is not required at this time.   As a charter school, we are not included in Jeffco’s testing plan.  However, we are working closely with Jeffco to make sure that we take whatever steps are deemed necessary to ensure that the drinking water continues to be safe for our students and staff to drink.

3A and 3B

Dear Parents,

As many of you already know, we have a bond and mill levy proposed on the ballot this November.
I fully support the passage of the Bond and Mill Levy. Excel Academy, along with the other Charter Schools in our district will receive 10% of the funds.

The $535 million bond funding would enable:
  • Improvements, updates, and repairs for 110 schools including updated technology, lab space, and furnishings
  • Renovations/additions at 45 schools and facilities including more classroom space
  • 4 replacement and 3 new elementary schools
  • Safety and security upgrades
  • All neighborhood, option, and charter schools benefit
The $33 million mill levy override funding would enable:
  • Increased per student funding for programs suited to individual schools like STEM, career/tech, or arts/music
  • Transparent and competitive teacher compensation to ensure our ability to attract and retain the best teachers
  • Coverage of any funding gaps if the state reduces funding
  • Safety and security improvements, including enhanced mental health services such as school counselors and intervention programming
  • All neighborhood, option, and charter schools benefit

To understand how Excel Academy would use the extra funding please click on the following link: http://www.jeffcopublicschools.org/fmp/fact_sheets/excel.pdf

Good Morning Parents,

We are looking for parent volunteers to be on our SAC (School Accountability Committee). This committee reviews our school assessment data, school policies, and much more. If you are interested please let me know and I will give you the dates of our meetings. These meetings are typically on Tuesdays before the Board Meeting, and this year we will be meeting about once a quarter.

Twisted Penny begins this Monday, please see the flyer in this weeks Friday Folder.

Have wonderful Thursday, and are you ready for some football?

Safety Door Locking

Good Afternoon Parents,

For safety purposes we do need to keep all outside doors locked. When there is a meeting please always enter through the front doors so that we know who is in the building.
Teachers and students have been instructed to not let anyone in the back doors.
Thank you for your understanding.

Car Line Updates

Good Afternoon Parents,

Thank you for your patience during our first indoor dismissal on Monday. After brainstorming with our Administrative team we have added a new procedure to help streamline our car line.
In today's email blast you will receive a template for your car dashboard to use in car line. Please put the last name of all students you pick up and the grades they are in. We will read those to help speed up our process.
If you need to speak to a teacher please set up a time other than car line to speak with him/her. Our teachers will respond within 24 hours.
Have a wonderful Wednesday.

Weekly update

Good Morning,

We are now entering our third week of school and students in grades 3-8 are finishing up our on-line NWEA/MAP assessments. These assessments give us real time data that allows teachers to place students at an appropriate instructional level. Also, the MAP data will be used to assign students math tasks on Compass Learning (our new math supplement).
As we enter into this week look for more homework as the "real "work begins.
